He did not want the complete set. He wanted the concealed body only and planned to install a cartridge sourced elsewhere.
His cartridge needed a different depth and different overall dimensions. The mounting method and hole positions were also different.
Those changes were large enough that we opened a new mold for the body. The question had started with what was inside the box.
A Shower Set Name Did Not Define That Order
For our normal shower-set business, one selected set is quoted as one configured product. The default packing is one shower set per carton, with the included accessories in the same carton.
The cartridge is already installed. We add protective packing such as bubble wrap, and one instruction sheet is included by default.
Buyers can request color boxes, another instruction language, custom markings, labels, or a different packing arrangement.
Our shower set range is organized around configuration, mixer type, diverter, accessories, finish, and packing.
For a buyer comparing a shower trim kit with valve, the product title still does not define the carton. GROHE’s Lineare pressure-balance trim includes a cartridge but requires a GrohSafe 3.0 rough-in valve sold separately.
American Standard’s Flash shower rough-in valve states that the cartridge ships with the trim and is sold separately from the rough body.
For OEM sourcing, we lock the actual configuration before relying on labels such as trim kit, shower set, or shower system.
The Cartridge Changed the Body
The Egyptian project became a body project only after the buyer explained his cartridge plan.
We manufacture faucet bodies; we do not manufacture cartridges.
Our cartridges come from outside suppliers. We purchase different specifications and quality levels according to the confirmed order.
A different cartridge can require a different body configuration.
On the 2025 project, the buyer’s cartridge changed the required depth, dimensions, mounting method, and hole positions. Our existing concealed body was not the right base, so we made a new mold.
The cartridge supplier provides a test report. We sample about 10% for a 48-hour continuous on/off sealing test and watch for leakage.
We also pressure-test sampled faucet bodies for 48 hours. I do not know the exact pressure used for that body test, so I will not publish a number here.
A Rough-In Plus Trim Diagram Leaves Out One Purchase Line
A basic concealed-shower diagram has two purchasing layers: the rough-in behind the wall and the trim outside it.
The cartridge needs its own line of attention.
American Standard’s Flash rough-in page places the cartridge with the trim rather than the rough body. Its official product page says “Cartridge Ships with Trim” and lists the cartridge as sold separately. See the Flash rough-in product page.
GROHE’s Lineare trim shows the same purchasing split from the visible side. The trim includes a cartridge, while the matching GrohSafe 3.0 rough-in valves are separate required products. See the Lineare trim page.
For the PO, we ask:
- Which body is being supplied?
- Which cartridge is matched to that body?
- Is the cartridge installed before shipment?
- Which trim is designed around that body and cartridge?
- Are they packed under one set or split across separate SKUs?

Add a Diverter and “One Valve” Stops Being a Useful Description
A shower with one controlled outlet already needs more detail than a trim plate and a rough body.
Add a diverter and the order gains another interface.
Delta’s R11000 diverter rough is sold as the rough-in body. Delta states that the trim kit is sold separately and that the cartridge ships with the trim.
GROHE’s Lineare three-way diverter trim includes the pressure-balance cartridge. It requires the GrohSafe 3.0 rough-in valve with integrated diverter, sold separately.
For an OEM shower valve with diverter and trim kit, the outlet count, diverter function, body, cartridge, trim, and supplied shower components need one approved configuration.
A shower trim kit with diverter therefore needs its own BOM review. A two-handle faceplate does not define the parts behind it.

I Would Not Accept “Universal” as the Final Specification
“Universal” still sits inside a defined product platform.
Delta’s MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNWS page lists compatibility with Delta 13/14, 17, and 17T trim series. Delta also says it cannot guarantee fit with other-brand trim kits.
Our factory side has a similar design constraint. When the cartridge specification changes, the body configuration can change with it.
Depth, mounting, dimensions, and hole positions are not details I would leave under one word such as “universal.”
For an RFQ, I would add a second line: universal within which body and cartridge configuration?
Retail Parts and an OEM Shower Set Use Different Buying Structures
A retail rough-in can be sold before the final trim is selected. Delta says its R11000 diverter rough can be installed before the specific trim and finish are chosen. The product page explains that sequence.
Our normal OEM workflow starts from a confirmed set.
The buyer selects a shower-set model, we confirm the requested configuration, and we quote it as one configured item. The default packing keeps that set together in one carton.
We do not routinely add spare cartridges to every box.
When an after-sales issue needs replacement cartridges, we can add a small batch of free replacements to a later shipment. Sending a small cartridge parcel alone by international express costs much more.
A buyer can also request body-only supply, split cartons, a custom color box, another manual language, or private-label markings. Those choices change the shipment even when the product rendering stays the same.
The PO Needs a BOM Before It Needs a Better Product Name
A line that says “complete shower set” is still too broad for an OEM order.

For our default shower-set order, the answer is simple: one confirmed set, one carton, installed cartridge, included accessories, and one instruction sheet.
Remove the cartridge, change it, or change the diverter arrangement, and the commercial unit changes too. The same product photo no longer describes the same purchase.
In the Egyptian project, the body looked like the starting point. The mold we cut was sized around the buyer’s cartridge.

The product name does not answer this. Check the exact SKU or BOM before assuming the rough-in is included.
Does a shower trim kit include the cartridge?
The exact platform decides it. American Standard’s Flash rough-in page says the cartridge ships with the trim, while GROHE lists a cartridge inside its Lineare trim and sells the matching rough-in separately.
What does “valve not included” mean on a shower trim kit?
It means the visible trim package does not include the required in-wall rough-in body. Confirm the matching rough-in model and where the cartridge sits in the order.
Are universal shower trim kits compatible with every rough-in valve?
No. Delta’s MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNWS is tied to listed Delta trim series, and Delta says fit with other-brand trim kits is not guaranteed.
